Almost Had a Pet Emergency
I have an older dog who sometimes doesn’t remember she can’t get around so well. This morning when the spousal unit took her and our other pup out, he turned his back on the older one while taking in the younger one. Normally she just stays in the yard, but has been known to wander round to the back. Well, this time, she wandered away and we couldn’t find her. She didn’t come when called. I got scared she heard something interesting in the creek and tried to go down there, forgetting that she’s not a puppy anymore and would have trouble getting out. So I spent hours slogging through the creek, trekking through brambles, and slipping in mud trying to find her. I was almost in despair and about to ask you all for all the prayers, well wishes, good thoughts, safe return spells— whatever you had— when a neighbor called. She had wandered over to his house and fallen asleep in his open garage! He’s new and we’re friends with the previous owners; she apparently just wanted to go visit them. I was so relieved, but also lesson learned! Don’t take eyes off her, and if she does get away, check the neighbors’. One of them has a dog that mine are friends with and whoever is out will go over to the other’s house and scratch at the door to get the dog there to come out and play. Given that, I should have known she’d just gone visiting. It’s amazing how similar they are to us. Just another reason to treat them with love, kindness, and respect.
