A Non-standard Way To Look at The Subject...
Most folks have the idea that meditation and mindfulness is being all super serious like the monks. That is simply not always true.
Sure, you have the cross legged serious "OOOOMMMMMMMMM" type meditation if you want. Or silent meditation. Or walking meditation. There are numerous meditative styles around the world. There is no "one size fits all" solution here.
I've seen people do silent meditation, use distance running as a meditative tool, chant, garden, cook... whatever puts them in that headspace where "monkey mind" takes a break for a while.
For me, that headspace happens when I am wood carving. I make magical tools and jewelry. Completely handmade, no power tools. It puts me in that quiet place where my brain can relax and a meditative state can occur. This way, I can meditate for hours at a time throughout the day sometimes without getting bored or being distracted by others. As an adult with roaring ADHD, it has been the odd mix of elements that has worked.
Mindfulness joins my meditation sometimes based on what I am doing in the shop. The carefulness of smooth chisel strokes, the exactness of angles, the exact setting of crystals, and the care of hand building something. It all interacts.
Find the activities that work well with each other if standard meditation doesn't work for you. You can do it, dear Gnomean. Have faith.
