Historical Background

On April 28th, 2011, the Kingdom of Gnome was officially founded as a micronation by the Gnomean Elder. This unique nation, which recognizes gnomes as legal citizens, was established 13 years before the Church of Gnome. The Kingdom of Gnome operates under the legal framework provided by international law for micronations, including recognition of sovereignty and self-determination as outlined in the Montevideo Convention of 1933 and the Charter of the U.N. International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights

The origins of this day trace back to the early compassionate acts of a young boy, now our King, who, along with his friends, liberated gnomes from unwanted situations. This act of kindness evolved into an annual tradition of gnome liberation, culminating in the establishment of the Kingdom of Gnome. The Kingdom has since become a symbol of unity and respect for nature and its inhabitants.

The Kingdom of Gnome is recognized under the Montevideo Convention of 1933, which outlines the qualifications for statehood, including a permanent population, defined territory, government, and the capacity to enter into relations with other states. The Kingdom proudly meets these qualifications, with citizens from around the world, including nearly every continent. Many have even donated their property to the Kingdom, expanding its reach and providing safe havens for both gnomes and people.
